What is a Zero Waste Lifestyle?

Most of us are not living a zero-waste lifestyle!
Because guess what? It doesn’t happen overnight; changes have to be made slowly and gradually for the changes to stick in our lifestyle.

Zero waste is a movement to reduce the amount one consumes and consequently throws away. Zero Waste lifestyle choices influence all environmental areas by preventing resource extraction, reducing the number of materials sent to the landfill or incinerator, and reducing pollution from producing, transporting, or disposing of materials.

There are many ways one can practice Zero Waste Lifestyle, below are some tips everyone can use to move to a more Zero Waste Lifestyle:

1.Ask “Why?”
Everyone who is willing to establish a Zero Waste Lifestyle has to have a “why” they want to change their lifestyle. Getting to know your why will make your inner motive clear and strong and will make you stick to a Zero Waste Lifestyle.

2.Access your Waste:
For this, you need to literally at the end of your day, dig through your trash! The easiest place where you can start accessing where you’re making a lot of waste and focusing on those areas first. Even if this would not solve your waste issue, but you can still access if what you are throwing away is either reusable or recyclable.

3.Replace or Refuse:
You don’t have to buy Zero Waste alternatives at once!
Replace your plastic usage at all costs- Use reusable plastic, instead of a disposable plastic bag, avoid using plastic bags when you go out to buy grocery, avoid using plastic forks, spoons, and knives which are eventually going to end up in the trash, look at the small things you can do fist to either replace or refuse the plastic usage anytime possible.

4.Home-Made Products:
Zero Waste is often shown as something that isn’t easily accessible, well the easiest thing you can do is prepare most of your usable items at home- which are organic and produces less waste when we buy stuff from outside.
For ladies and even men- Try making your own cosmetics at home! Making your own soap might sound impractical to you but trust us when you learn to make your own soap or cosmetics- you will be not only reducing the plastic packaging of soaps that come when bought from outside but you will all the while saving money in the long term.

5.Recycle, Donate, or Sell it to someone:
Recycle whenever you can, Compost whenever you can eat your leftovers- whenever you can. Find a way to reuse old items or donate them for free or you can even sell them at a cheaper rate- just keep one goal in mind that is to lessen the waste landfills dump!

Everyone’s zero waste journey is different- It won’t happen overnight- take as long as you want to; because you’re awesome for wanting to make this change and for making the effort to do so.
