Harmful ingredients to lookout for in MAKEUP + SKINCARE PRODUCTS

So you spent big bucks on those in your department store makeup or buying those luminous Skincare products, except now your face is breaking out, eyes are itchy and skin is drying up?
It certainly could be the ingredients and the only reason to all this.
Below are some harmful ingredients to look out for in your makeup + skincare Products:

1. Aluminum:

Toxic metal can have estrogen-like effects in our systems, disrupting the healthy functioning of the endocrine system.

Usually found in almost every personal care product, especially antiperspirant deodorants.

2. DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), and TEA (triethanolamine)

Clear, colorless, viscous liquids with ammonia-like odors.

Usually found in products that foam like facial cleansers and soaps. They are also found in eye makeup, fragrances, hair products, and sunscreens.

3. Mineral Oil:
Mineral oil is made from petroleum, and enough of it can cause diarrhea and nausea. What’s in your bubble bath, eye makeup remover, and lip gloss isn’t a dangerous threshold, but it could be problematic for sensitive skin.

4.PARABENS (Methyl, Butyl, Ethyl, Propyl)

Not always labeled, used as preservatives, and may contribute to hormone imbalance.

Usually found almost everywhere including skincare products such as moisturizers and deodorants.

5.  Artificial Fragrance/Parfum

Almost every single conventional skincare and cosmetic product (even “unscented” ones) contains artificial fragrances. Manufacturers aren’t required to reveal what’s actually in their fragrances, so you’ll simply see Fragrance or Parfum on the ingredients list when it could actually be a cocktail of carcinogens, allergens, endocrine disruptors, and irritants.

6. Formaldehyde:
Formaldehyde was declared a carcinogen to humans by the International Agency on Research on Cancer (IARC) in 2004, but it still lurks in shampoos and straightening products.

7.  TRICLOSAN

A synthetic antibacterial agent that may disrupt thyroid function and can degrade into a form of dioxin, a class of chemicals linked to a broad range of toxicities including cancer.

Usually found in soaps, mouthwash, shaving cream, deodorants, toothpaste, etc.

Taking all of these into consideration the next time you are shopping for skincare products, it is really important to read the ingredient lists thoroughly and not skim over words, especially the ones you can’t pronounce. Your skincare products should be made with pure, organic ingredients and should not contain any toxins that could affect your health.
